More and more every year, the Oscars seem be not only a much-anticipated cinematic event but also a fashion show for the celebrities honored with attending. This year’s ceremony was even more special for team ALANGOO and many of our shoppers and sellers. The acclaimed Iranian director, Asghar Farhadi, won his second award for the best foreign film. Congratulations to him and the amazing cast and crew of The Salesman. The ceremony honored the late genius Iranian director, Abbas Kiarostami, and it was nice to see Shohreh Aghdashloo on the ret carpet.
There were a few surprises on during the show, La La Land winning best picture then not, but there was no surprise that the fashion of the night was on point.
Everyone was anticipating what La La Land starlet Emma Stone would wear, and she really pulled all the stops out with her Givenchy Haute Couture gown. Reminiscent of 1920’s flapper fashion, the bejewelled stunner brought an old Hollywood glamour to the stars look. Sticking with a neutral colour palette like Stone’s but going for a more minimal and futuristic look was Priyanka Chopra in Ralph & Russo. The actress’ gown was daring in subtle ways with cut-outs down the sides and a structure bodice. She did not fail to stand out from the crowd.
A few attendees stayed on trend with the season while still making a statement. Cynthia Erivo wore a gorgeous floral Paolo Sebastian number for her first appearance on the Oscars red carpet. Leslie Mann went for a Beauty in the Beast princess look in her satin Zac Posen gown.
Other leading ladies chose to go daring. It’s no surprise that Janelle Monae went with a very fashion forward gown, but she truly wowed in the best way possible. Her Elie Saab Couture gown featured layers of tulle, crystals, diamonds, and sequins was constructed with almost a Victorian era flair. Monae’s stylist even said of her first Oscars red carpet appearance, “Go big or go home.” Jessica Biel also turned heads in a gilded Kaufman Franco piece adorned with a high neckline and sequins. Fifty Shades Darker star Dakota Johnson took a leaf out of Jessica Biel’s playbook with her gold high neck, long sleeved Gucci gown. With a plisse detail in front and a dramatic cascading bow accent, Johnson’s gown was eye-catching in the best way possible.
