Dolce & Gabbana has launched its first line of hijabs and abayas. Stefano Gabbana, one of the dynamic duo designers, broke the news on Instagram, captioning photos of the collection, “Dolce & Gabbana the Abaya Collection #dgabaya”
The line is engineered for modesty to cater to Muslim customers in the Middle East, yet still has all the style and flair of any other Dolce & Gabbana collection. Black polka-dotted hijabs, paired with laced trimmed skirts are styled with the label’s iconic cocktail jewelry, oversized jewel encrusted sunglasses, and brightly patterned bags.
In recent years, brands such as DKNY, Oscar de la Renta, Mango, and Monique Lhuillier have produced collections specifically for Muslim women, often sold around Ramadan. To Muslim women with a taste for luxury fashion, this Dolce & Gabbana collection is exciting and hopefully a precursor to a trend of more brands embracing the Middle Eastern women’s market.
